with Dr. Michael BRESCIA,Executive Medical Director of Calvary Hospital
Presented by Crossroads Cultural Center
Michael J. Brescia, MD is the Co-Founder and Executive Medical Director of Calvary Hospital, which is devoted exclusively to palliative care for people with advanced cancer. Dr. Brescia will share his unique experiences and insights into what it means to accompany and treat patients suffering with terminal illness. Unlike other health care facilities, Calvary Hospital focuses on the emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs of its patients. Operating under Dr. Brescia’s belief that “when one person has cancer, the entire family has cancer,” the hospital provides a diverse array of services for patients and their families.
Dr. Brescia is also the co-inventor of the Brescia-Cimino fistula, an internationally renowned methodology for hemodialysis. Developed in 1966, the Brescia-Cimino fistula has revolutionized the treatment of end-stage kidney disease. The fistula has been used by millions of patients worldwide and remains the most effective method for long-term access to patients' blood for hemodialysis today. Dr. Brescia has received many awards acknowledging his professional work.
The event is open to the public and free of charge.
