WHAT WE HAVE SEEN AND HEARD

A presentation of the latest choral music

by Sebastián MODARELLI, musician and composer, to relive the journey of Saint John through some of the most moving stories of his Gospel

Presented by Crossroads Cultural Center

This hour-long choral work composed by Argentinean-born composer Sebastián Modarelli consists of 13 a cappella pieces that revive the journey of the apostle St. John through some of the most moving stories of his Gospel. The title is taken from the beginning of the first letter of St. John, where, in a few lines, this unique historical fact is summarized: Being (the “Word”, the “Logos”) became flesh. The author of this musical work will explain how this piece came to be, why this is significant in this moment of history, and through music and video, we will enter into some of the stories described by St. John in his Gospel. Some examples are the mystery of the Word becoming flesh, the Samaritan Woman, the Woman Caught in Adultery, Judas’ betrayal, the discourse of the Bread of Life, the Resurrection, and others.

This work was premiered in 2013 by the VocalEssence Ensemble Singers, under the direction of Philip Brunelle. The Oxford Times (UK) has declared that the VocalEssence Ensemble Singers “have a blend that could — and should — be the envy of every choir in the business.” Founded in 1991, the Ensemble Singers are acclaimed for their “superbly blended sound” (Birmingham Post, UK), their “exemplary technique” (Minneapolis Star Tribune) and as “polished, bright and brilliantly balanced,” (Times of London).

Join us to see and hear!

The event is free and open to the public.
