New York Encounter 2016: "Setting Out on the Long Path of Renewal" (Pope Francis)

Reflections on Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si' (On Care for Our Common Home) with Sean Cardinal O’MALLEY, Archbishop of Boston, Jeffrey SACHS , Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, and Rebecca VITZ CHERICO, (moderator) Instructor in Spanish Studies, Villanova University

Presented by Crossroads Cultural Center and Communion and Liberation, in collaboration with the Research Cluster on Science and Subjectivity

“What kind of world do we want to leave to those who come after us, to children who are now growing up? This question not only concerns the environment in isolation; the issue cannot be approached piecemeal. When we ask ourselves what kind of world we want to leave behind, we think in the first place of its general direction, its meaning and its values. Unless we struggle with these deeper issues, I do not believe that our concern for ecology will produce significant results. We need to see that what is at stake is our own dignity. The issue is one which dramatically affects us.” — Pope Francis, Laudato Si’

Cardinal O’Malley and Dr. Sachs will help us to appreciate the concerns which moved Pope Francis to write the Laudato Si’ and the impact that the Encyclical is having in the political and economic world.

The event is open to the public and free of charge.
