A Human and Scientific Legacy Born of Love
A conversation with Mr. Mark BRADFORD,President of the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation USA, Mr. J. Steven BROWN, Parent, and Ms. Aude DUGAST, Postulator for Dr. Lejeune's Cause for Canonization
Presented by Crossroads Cultural Center, The Jérôme Lejeune Foundation USA and American Bible Society
It is an honor for us to have the opportunity to remember the life and work of Jérôme Lejeune. What makes the witness of Jérôme Lejeune especially significant today is that we live in an epoch in which we find it increasingly difficult to recognize that reality has value even when it does not match our preconceived images. In fact, in our culture even human beings have value to the extent that they can be independent and productive members of society, which ultimately means that we have value to the extent that we are useful. Dr. Lejeune, on the contrary, recognized that human life has an intrinsic value, and that recognizing such value is necessary for our own journey towards happiness. Ultimately, our age has to choose between doing violence to reality (by destroying what is not "useful") or doing violence to ourselves (which is the only way in which we understand self-sacrifice). Instead, the life of Jérôme Lejeune shows that it is possible to love what does not meet our expectations, because everything is a gift, and making a gift of ourselves in return is the law of life and the road to fulfillment. With this presentation, we will explore how this is possible by looking at the life of Lejeune himself, and also listening to the experience of parents of children who suffer from Down syndrome. The event is open to the public and free of charge.About this Event
