CATHOLICISM: The New York Premiere

A screening of CATHOLICISM, with an introduction by His Excellency, Archbishop Timothy Dolan, followed by a Face-to-Face between series creator Fr. Barron and Msgr. Albacete

Presented by Crossroads Cultural Center and Word on Fire

with His Excellency, Archbishop Timothy DOLAN, Archbishop of New York, Msgr. Lorenzo ALBACETE, Theologian, author, columnist, and Fr. Robert BARRON, Creator of Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith

The world is noisy.

From morning to night, our life is filled with distractions, voices competing for our ever-shrinking attention. New York, with its economic and cultural power, shows itself to be a great symphony of noises rising out of man’s search for something greater than himself. This tension (between the search and the One that we search for) causes a stress in modern man that can lead to an exasperation, fatigue and ultimately an emptying of our personality. Being Catholic or religious in the modern world doesn’t save us from any of this stress and distraction, so the question becomes, what truly saves?

As Msgr. Lorenzo Albacete said in his address to Crossroads Cultural Center in March 2011, “Christianity truly lived begins with the experience of being saved, then seeking to live that experience in the surrounding culture. We usually reverse the equation, trying to heal the culture (ethically) in order to save it and ourselves. What saves us is not ethical conduct but the fact of Christ’s life.”

By utilizing an episode of Fr. Robert Barron’s recent 10 part PBS mini-series called Catholicism about prayer and the life of the Church, we hope to better understand how it is possible to live the experience of Christianity in the modern world.

The event is open to the public and free of charge, but since seats are limited, it is necessary to RSVP: www.catholicism.eventbrite.com

A reception and book signing to follow.
